During the early years (1966) there was no need for formal trails as we know them today. The local snowmobilers could find their way over the wood roads without marked trails. As word spread about the vast area for snowmobiling in the Town of Pittsburg, non-resident camp owners and all of their friends could be found riding the woodland roads. Club members began making trails and grooming with crude equipment. First they tried old bed springs on wooden runners and when that proved unsatisfactory they made pipe drags of long pieces of pipe bent into a “U” shape with cutters welded to the bottom. Harold Webster bought a small commercial drag that proved to be quite an improvement…(anyone have pictures?)
This week we received 1-2” of rain and temps in the 40’s causing the loss of most of our snow. Last night we received 2-4” of blowing snow and temps are falling into the low 20’s. Snow showers are hanging around and predicted to be around for a couple days with colder temps.
Trail Conditions are Moderate – Bare Spots, Ice, Water Bars and Rough Sections.
Grooming will be limited until we get more snow.
Trail System remains open with the better riding to be in the Northern Section. Trailer to one of the parking lots (Cunningham, Magalloway or Deer Mountain)
DO NOT RIDE ON THE SIDE OF ROUTE 3 or ANY CLOSED TRAILS or you will get a ticket.
Happy New Year❄️❄️❄️
