Club News – President’s message – July 2024

by | Aug 1, 2024 | Club News, What We're Talking About

Dear Ridge Runners,

WOW! That was a crazy winter!!! Our trails were 100% ready to open on December 15th and then the warm rains came causing major damage to our trails resulting in many closures and re-routes. We were fortunate to hold enough snow throughout the season and our groomer operators turned marginal conditions into some pretty sweet riding even though, at times, it looked more like peanut butter. With over 30,000 registered sleds in NH, at times, it seemed like they were all riding in Pittsburg. Last year we ran five groomers covering trails from Beecher Falls VT to the Canadian Border and that is our plan for this upcoming season as well.

Here is a partial listing of work scheduled for this summer:

  • New four foot culvert on Trail 5
  • New bridge over Moose Brook
  • Trenching and trail repair on Trail 140
  • Brushing on Nine Mile Loop
  • Bridge overhaul on Trail 112

As the trails continue to dry up we will be inspecting and assessing all the bridges, trails and repair as much as the club can financially afford.

Volunteers are needed for upcoming work parties. Watch for updates on social media.

Please check out pittsburgridgerunners.org and view the list of our upcoming social events; it’s going to be a busy, fun season!

I’d like to thank everyone; volunteers and riders that worked so hard to keep the sport we love alive and are always striving to make it better. The landowners…we couldn’t do it without them! It is vitally important that we respect their property and trail signage.

We are, once again holding a sled raffle. Tickets are available at several stores throughout town and also at the “NEW” Club Store. YES…Club Store!!! Stop by and check it out!

Curt Shaw, after 16 years, has decided to step down as President and hold the Vice President position so he can spend more time with his lovely wife, Cindy. We are grateful for the leadership he continues to share.

I would like to thank the Board of Directors (Cindy Howe, David Ainsworth, Mark Klose, Justin Webber, Mike Whitney and Steve Robinson) for the countless hours managing events. Thank you to Jason Busfield, Grooming Coordinator and Claude Crawford, Mechanic, for their diligence in keeping groomers out on the trails and Cathy Desjardins for keeping us all on track.

Thank you for your continued support.

Think white and stay right!

Terry
